HOW DOES THE STRAWBERRY CHIN DEVELOP?
The strawberry chin is caused by the activity of the mentalis muscle. If it curls, small “craters” form on the face after a certain time. Aging processes also occur that lead to a loss of connective tissue structure and the breakdown of fatty tissue, which affects elasticity and firmness. Imbalanced proportions and wrinkles become increasingly apparent and can result in “cobblestone relief”. It is not uncommon for this appearance to be accompanied by sagging cheeks, which can further impair the overall impression.
GOODBYE STRAWBERRY CHIN!
By inhibiting the muscle via botulinum toxin A (Botox®), the chin relaxes, resulting in a smoothing of the skin surface. This leads to a more even and finer chin contour, which has a positive effect on the overall aestheticsof the face. Correcting the strawberry chin can therefore boost self-confidence and contribute to an overall youthful appearance.
Botulinum toxin injections also help secondarily by inhibiting the activity of overactive sebaceous glands, which are responsible for the excessive oil production that contributes to the appearance of a strawberry chin. By reducing the oiliness of the skin, Botox® can reduce the appearance of bumps and improve the overall texture of the chin.
A great side effect: Treating the chin muscle with Botox® makes the chin look slightly longer, which gives the profile a harmonious appearance.
Botox® treatment of the strawberry chin is a short procedure. Patients often notice visible improvements in the texture and appearance of their chin just a few days after treatment. The results gradually improve over the following weeks and ensure a refined and aesthetically pleasing chin contour.
Further harmonization of the chin area with hyaluronic acid can also be beneficial, as it compensates for proportional imbalances and – if present – sagging cheeks and creates a friendly expression that also generates a great profile. The side effect profile is minimal and the chin area retains its original characteristics – only in a tapered form. The paving stone relief is also further corrected by the volume build-up.
PREPARATION AND ADVICE
During the consultation, the patient’s chin area is assessed, individual goals are discussed and the underlying causes of the condition are identified. A thorough examination of the chin area will determine whether Botox® treatment is an option for the strawberry chin.
The chin area is thoroughly cleaned before the procedure. If necessary, an anaesthetic cream is applied to further minimize discomfort during the injection. Small amounts of Botox® are then injected into the desired areas of the chin. The exact placement of the injections depends on the individual anatomy and the severity of the strawberry chin. As a rule, several injections are made along the chin to ensure comprehensive treatment.
After Botox® injections, the treated area should not be touched or massaged for several hours. The full effect is achieved from day 10-14.
Costs from € 350 (based on the German Medical Fee Schedule, or GOÄ), depending on the treatment plan
