Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers have revolutionized aesthetic medicine by providing a non-surgical solution for facial rejuvenation and volume restoration. However, patients come to YY Aestehtics time and again who want to rehabilitate themselves from unsuccessful or improperly placed filler injections by third-party practitioners and seek help from us.
In rare cases, corrective measures may also be necessary in the event of complications such as vascular occlusion following the injection of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronidase, or hylase for short, is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid and is used in the cases described.
Hyaluronic acid dissolution with hylase treatment is offered in our practices in Baden-Baden and Stuttgart.

Side effects
The side effects are very minor. Very rarely, allergic reactions may occur in the case of an existing wasp or bee sting allergy. It is also possible that the hyaluronic acid is only partially dissolved. A further meeting is then required.

Avoid the sauna, sun and sports.
Pregnant women / nursing mothers
Hyaluronic acid dissolution during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended.
Other
In principle, hyaluronidase can also dissolve the body’s own hyaluronic acid. However, this is not to be expected if the product is used correctly.
MECHANISM OF ACTION OF HYALURONIDASE
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of HA, a natural component of the extracellular matrix. It cleaves the glycosidic bonds between the disaccharide units of HA, which leads to their breakdown and removal. The injected hyaluronic acid can thus be eliminated.
WHEN IS HYALURONIDASE USED?
Hyaluronidase is primarily used to dissolve or correct overfilled or improperly placed HA fillers. It can be used to achieve an immediate reduction of the filler volume , resulting in a more natural and aesthetically pleasing result. In most cases, patients want a complete resolution of the unsatisfactory result of the previous practitioner and a new build-up at YY Aesthetics.
Vascular complications: In rare cases, HA fillers can inadvertently block blood vessels and lead to ischemic events. Hyaluronidase can be used as an emergency measure to break down the HA filler, quickly restoring blood flow and preventing further complications.
Although the substance occurs naturally in the body, allergic reactions to hyaluronan can occur very rarely . Hyaluronidase can then support the rapid breakdown of HA and thus reduce the intensity and duration of allergic symptoms.
Patients who are dissatisfied with the result of an HA filler treatment and find it unaesthetic, such as in the case of asymmetries or overcorrections (excessive injection of hyaluronic acid), e.g. with the result of “duck lips”, treatment with hyaluronidase can help to reverse the result.
TITRATION OF THE DOSE
The hyaluronidase dosage should be customized based on the amount of HA filler present and the desired level of correction.
We start with a minimal dose and increase it gradually, if necessary .
Overcorrection should be avoided as it can lead to tissue damage or undesirable aesthetic results.
