Marionette lines, mentolabial folds or “Merkel lines” run down from the corners of the mouth and can extend to the chin if they are quite pronounced. If the drooping corners of the mouth are clearly visible, they can make the face look sullen and sad. This is caused by pronounced facial expressions or the corner of the mouth (depressor anguli oris muscle) and a loss of volume in this area of the face.
