The CO2 fractional laser is a skin renewal and rejuvenation procedure that uses carbon dioxide (CO2) laser technology to remove damaged skin layers and stimulate the growth of new, healthy skin cells.
During treatment, the laser emits short pulses of light that create thermal damage in the form of tiny “columns”. To accelerate healing and reduce downtime compared to traditional CO2 laser treatments, these pillars are scattered so that each is surrounded by pristine skin from which healing and stimulation of the connective tissue that produces collagen fibers occurs. The wound healing provoked in this way allows new, firmer and finer skin to develop.
The CO2 fractional laser treatment is offered in our practice in Stuttgart.
Duration
30 min. – 1 hour
Fit for social life
Immediately after the treatment, slight swelling and reddening of the treated areas can be expected. Crust formation is also a normal reaction. The healing process is largely complete after just 5-7 days.
Follow-up check
2 to 3 weeks after treatment
Durability
Effective results are achieved after an average of 3-5 sessions at intervals of 4-6 weeks – depending on the skin type and skin problem, a single treatment may be sufficient.

Before the actual laser treatment, an extensive doctor-patient consultation is held, which, in addition to detailed information, leads to a diagnosis and an individual therapy proposal. The skin area to be treated is locally anesthetized, so the treatment is virtually painless. Cooling of the skin surface and the application of soothing substances to the lasered skin areas complete the treatment.
The duration of a CO2 fractional laser treatment depends on the size of the area to be treated. The treatment usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour.
The number of treatments required depend on various factors, including the desired treatment outcome and the severity of the skin problems being treated. In some cases a single treatment may be sufficient, while in other cases several sessions at intervals of several weeks may be necessary.
Redness, swelling and sensitivity of the treated skin may occur as side effects. In the days following the treatment, scaling or crusting occurs, which gradually reveals the revitalized, rosy and fresh skin. This process can take up to two weeks. Youthful skin is very sensitive to UV radiation and must be protected accordingly to avoid unwanted pigmentation!
