Couperose, also known as “copper rose” , is a vascular disease. It manifests itself as fine, bluish-red veins that shimmer through the skin of the face. Couperose is a precursor of rosacea. The cause of this disease is usually a genetic disposition, but high blood pressure, excessive alcohol, nicotine and coffee consumption, hormonal fluctuations, inflammatory bowel diseases, Helicobacter pylori infections or seborrhea (excessive activity of the sebaceous glands) and/or extensive sunbathing can also be the cause. The exact cause of couperose or rosacea remains unclear.
Rosacea (rosacea) is a very common chronic inflammatory skin disease of the face. It manifests itself as persistent redness on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin as well as papules and pustules, visible veins and swelling.
Telangiectasias or spider veins are small, dilated blood vessels that are visible near the surface of the skin. They often occur on the face and legs and can appear as red, blue or purple lines. These vascular changes are usually harmless, but can be disturbing for aesthetic reasons. They are treated in the same way as couperose or rosacea.
We offer treatment for couperose, rosacea and vascular signs in our practices in Baden-Baden and Stuttgart .

FURTHER CLASSIFICATIONS OF ROSACEA
- Rosacea erythematosa-teleangiectatica (erythematous-teleangiectatic rosacea)
- Rosacea papulopustulosa (papulopustular rosacea)
- Rosacea phymatosa (phytomatous rosacea)
- Rosacea ocularis (ocular rosacea)
Rosacea erythematosa-teleangiectatica (severity grade 1, couperose) is characterized by persistent erythema on the cheeks, nose and chin. In the course of the disease, reddening of the forehead may occur. In addition, dilated blood vessels are visible on the face – so-called telangiectasias.
Papulopustular rosacea (severity grade 2) is characterized by inflamed and reddened papules and pustules that are often arranged in groups.
Phytomatous rosacea (severity 3) or rosacea hypertrophica causes enlarged pores and a thickening of the skin on the nose and cheeks as well as central redness. As a result of the chronic inflammatory symptoms, skin thickening on the nose, particularly in men, can lead to the formation of a rhinophyma, or bulbous nose for short.
Ocular rosacea (severity grade 4) can occur concomitantly or in isolation with rosacea of the skin and extends to the eye. It leads to crusty eyelid margins, burning and reddened eyes. It is a case for an ophthalmologist.
The symptoms described are often misinterpreted as allergies or acne. Many sufferers are particularly affected by the obviousness of this disease. With the YY Aesthetics therapy concept for rosacea and couperose treatment, we can successfully alleviate prominent skin symptoms.
TREATMENT FOR COUPEROSE AND ROSACEA
Modern laser procedures such as intense pulsed light therapy (IPL Quantum Erbium Laser) can be used very well to treat couperose and rosacea. IPL therapy is also recommended by professional associations*. After a detailed preliminary consultation and diagnosis by the doctor, the course of the rosacea treatment is determined. The laser procedure usually requires several sessions, whereby a clear improvement in symptoms is already visible after the first session .
To prevent renewed dilation of the blood vessels and thus a regression to couperose or, in the worst case, rosacea, sauna visits, extensive sunbathing, excessive alcohol consumption or drinks containing caffeine should be avoided after rosacea treatment. The dilation of the blood vessels due to the above-mentioned actions favors the symptoms of rosacea.
